Community Sewing Blankets

The East Chatham Grange host community sewing events to sew beautiful lap blankets for patients receiving cancer treatment and veterans. The Grange provides the fabric with funds raised and volunteers gather to cut, iron, press and sew.

How it Works

  • Grange members shop sales to purchase cotton print fabric and flannel.
  • Volunteers but the fabric to 1 and a half years each of cotton and flannel and pin them together.
  • Others sew them leaving an opening to turn them right side out.
  • Another person takes these, trims the corners, turns and pressed the blanket.
  • Back to the sewers! The edge is sewn around twice to create a binding.

The result is a comforting blanket with one cool side and one warm side -- perfect for snuggling.
